About Glenn Rau, M.Ed., R.Psych
Qualifications: I am a Registered Psychologist with the College of Alberta Psychologists, and a member of the Psychologists’ Association of Alberta. I hold a Master’s Degree in Educational Psychology from Mount Saint Vincent University in Halifax, Nova Scotia. I have also taken postgraduate courses in Counselling Psychology at the University of Calgary.
Personally: I have been married for 33 years, and both of us are still smiling (most of the time!). We have five children and one grandchild. I used to do a fair bit of running and weight lifting, but I am now a devoted practitioner of Bikram Yoga. I find my work as a psychologist engaging and rewarding, and am pleased that many of my clients refer me to their friends and family.
Counseling Values: Three core values have guided my practice of psychology from the beginning. I believe in them as much today as I did when first starting out. I hope they will give you a sense of me both as a professional and as a person. Here they are:
- Commitment: How much a psychologist knows is important. But therapy is more than just exposure to a psychological theory; it is interacting with the person behind the theory. In this regard, I have made an internal commitment to do my best for your success, and to personally practice the psychology I promote.
- Compassion: The challenges we face can be difficult, complicated, and overwhelming. If this were not the case, there would be no need to seek the help of a psychologist in the first place! Compassion can go a long way in such a setting, and is something I strive to express from within for each one of my clients.
- Competence: Mental health professionals may be totally committed to their work and be empathic, but if they do not have research-supported interventions, they are missing the third leg of a three-legged stool. On a practical level, this means ongoing professional training and certification.
Below are courses I have received additional training in:
